The South West Coast Surfing
The south coast main seasons runs between the months of November and April experiences a dry season, a time when morning off-shore winds create the perfect wave, however, you can definitely surf year round. Benefiting from swells hitting the east and west coast, the surf in the south almost never goes flat. The area boasts sunshine all-year round with average water temperatures remaining at a luxurious 27C degrees; which is why some of the best beach villas in Sri Lanka are located on the gorgeous southern coast.
Hikkaduwa or ‘Hikka’ is a party central which started out as a surfer’s village. The place stays true to its origins with excellent surf spots like Bennys, Main Reef, North Jetty and Beach Break ready to thrill.
Unawatuna –Home to a gorgeous bay, check out Unawatuna Beach Break, Dalawella Reef, Bonavista Reef and South Beach.
Weligama – Perfect for beginners and advanced surfers, Weligama Beach Break, Midigama and Mirissa Bay deserve loads of attention and it’s just a short 10-15 minutes from Nirbana, Ahangama.
Surfing on the East Coast
Fall in love with the east coast, an almost pristine stretch of coastline home to some of the world’s best surf spots. Arugam Bay likened to Bali’s Kuta is the islands surf hub. The stunning crescent shaped bay is perfect for chilling. Go there between April and September.

Elephant Rock – Ideal for beginners, getting there is a challenge though, as you must scramble over rocks; perfect for an adventure
Baby Point and Main Point – As the name suggests, Baby Point is for beginners and Main Point for all you seasoned surfers
Pottuvil and Whisky Point – Located to the north of Arugam Bay both these locations cater to the experienced surfer.
